Frequently Asked Questions
Will all of the students be photographed on photo day?
Only the students who have a pre-order for photos will participate in individual photos.
All students in attendance will be welcomed to participate in the class and all-school photos.
What is the cost?
A single pose with the digital download is $26 per student.
A multi-pose package with the digital downloads is $52 per student.
You will need to purchase one of the above options prior to photo day in order to participate in individual photos.
After the photos are loaded to the gallery, you will be able to purchase additional prints if you like, starting at $14.
(All listed prices are before taxes.)
How do I pay?
At checkout, you will be prompted to choose payment by credit card or offline. Credit card payments are processed through a connected secure system called Stripe. If you wish to pay by etransfer, please select Offline. Send your etransfer to selina@ihanaimages.ca and please include your order number as a note in your payment.
Etransfer is the preferred payment method. As a small business, it eliminates transaction fees on my end.
What time will photos be done at?
The exact time for photos is not set. If your child has appointments on photo day, please communicate with the office regarding timing.
How many poses are in the multi-pose package?
The number of images will depend on the child. I aim for 4-5 images, but for some children it may only be 2-3 if they are feeling camera shy.
If you purchase a multi-pose package and your child is feeling done after a single photo, we can try again on the second photo day, or I can convert your payment overage to a print credit.
If I purchase the single pose option, will I get to choose the pose?
No. If you choose the single pose option, I will only be photographing one pose. If you would like more than one pose, please choose the multi-pose option.
What will the images look like?
We are planning to work with the natural outdoor environment of the school and schoolgrounds. Ideally, the weather will be lovely. If it is very cold, rainy, or windy we will move inside and use a custom backdrop of the schoolgrounds.
I know that photo day outfits are often a special selection, so I try to compose school images to include approximately half to two-thirds of the body. Feet and footwear are usually not showing in the images.
The images used for school ID and yearbooks will be a tighter and more traditional crop, highlighting your child's face.
As we are working with a wide range of unique personalities, I can't guarantee what your child's specific image is going to look like. My goal is to have them feeling relaxed and comfortable. Each student is unique, and we should expect their image to be too. This is not the same experience as the more commercial school photo companies. If you have additional questions about this, don't hesitate to reach out.
My child wears transition lenses. Will this be an issue?
As our photos will be done outside, transition glasses will have some level of tint. Here are some options, starting with ones that will provide the best results.
1. If your child has a secondary pair of glasses without tint, use those for photos.
2. Visit your eyewear specialist and ask if it's possible to pop the lenses out for photos. This gives the look of the frames without the tint or reflection. This is often easy to do, but please consult with your eyewear specialist. *
3. Find a pair of dollar store readers with frames that you like, and remove the lenses. *
4. Keep the glasses in a pocket or other dark space until the last moment.
5. Arrange for photos to be taken inside. Please email selina@ihanaimages.ca
* if the glasses are helping to correct eye placement/direction, this option will not work for you.
Are other glasses okay?
Glasses are best photographed when they are clean and free of smudges. As a full-time glasses wearer myself, I know how quickly they can get mucky. Smudges and debris on the lenses can reflect light, or block the clarity over the subject's eyes. I will have lens cleaning spray and lens cloths on hand for students to use.
If the glasses have a blue light blocker, this can show as purple-blue reflections in the lens. If they have a second pair of glasses without tint, that pair would be the better option for photos. If not, we will tweak angles as needed.
Do you do touch-ups on images?
I will remove small temporary skin blemishes that I feel distract from the image. If I'm unsure if a spot is a bug bite or a permanent mark, I will leave it. Feel free to reach out if I've missed something. Extensive acne touch ups can be added on for an additional fee.
I do not edit flyaway hair, wrinkled clothes, mucus, food on faces, etc as part of standard editing. These can be added on for an additional fee through the image gallery. I do not edit birth marks, freckles, moles, vitiligo, etc on young people.
What if my child is away that day?
If you have planned holidays on photo day, I'm sorry that we will miss you! Please do not book in if you plan to be away that week. I would be happy to have you book in at my studio in Salmon Arm on another day.
If your child is away due to illness on photo day, we will cross our fingers that they are well and back to school on retakes day. If they are still unwell on that day, you can come to my studio in Salmon Arm.
Will retakes be available?
If your child has an off day and photos just don't go well for them, you can expect to hear from me directly so that we can make a plan for retakes day.
If you receive your image gallery and you are truly unhappy with the images, do NOT move them to your cart! Contact me directly so that we can discuss. Once you have checked out with your images, retakes will incur a new booking fee.
Please note that complimentary retakes are to correct errors on my end. Please ensure that your child is photo ready on picture day! Retakes for reasons outside of my control, such as wardrobe, hair cuts, etc will incur a fee.
What happens if I book but photo day is cancelled?
If photo day needs to be cancelled due to force majeure or circumstances on my end, all pre-order purchases will be refunded in full.
How will my child's images be used?
That's up to you! After photo day, you'll be prompted to fill out image use permissions. This will allow you to provide me with permission to use your child's likeness. You can also opt to have these images kept private. Until I have consent from you, my default is to keep images private.
What happens if I miss the print order deadline or forget to download my images?
Your image downloads will be available for three months. Please download them and back them up to an independent media source. Requests for archive retrieval after three months are not guaranteed and may incur a fee.
Print orders after the group order deadline will be at a higher rate, and will incur shipping fees.
I still have questions. Who can I talk to?
Please reach out directly to your photographer, Selina.
