Frequently Asked Questions

Will all of the students be photographed on photo day?

Yes. All students in attendance will be photographed individually, as well as in the class and all-school photos.

What is the cost?

The digital downloads of individual photos have been pre-arranged through the school. There will not be an additional fee from the photographer to receive the digital download.
You will be able to purchase additional prints of individual photos if you like, starting at $14.

How can I use the photo(s)?

School photos include a personal use license. This means that you can make your own prints through a printer of your choice*, use the photos in family calendars, post them on your social media, email them to family members, etc.

*The photographer has no control over, and is not responsible for, the quality of prints made through outside sources.

Images may not be used commercially or submitted to contests or other organizations. In the case of young people, commercial use for school photos could look like modeling, acting, other other talent portfolios, use by junior sports teams, use as a headshot for a place of employment, use on a social media channel that is designed to earn income, etc.

Use in generative AI programs is strictly prohibited.

If you have any questions about usage, please reach out to your photographer.

Can I order a class photo?

The digital image download of class photos will be available after class photo day in the spring. You will also be able to order a print at that time if you wish.

What time will photos be taken at?

The exact time for each student's photo is not set. If your child has appointments on photo day, please coordinate with the office for the schedule to ensure that they aren't missing out.

What will the images look like?

We are planning to work with the natural outdoor environment of the school and schoolgrounds. Ideally, the weather will be lovely. If it is very cold, rainy, or windy we will move inside and use a custom backdrop of the schoolgrounds.

I know that photo day outfits are often a special selection, so I try to compose school images to include approximately half to two-thirds of the body. Feet and footwear are usually not showing in the images.
The images used for school ID and yearbooks will be a tighter and more traditional crop, highlighting your child's face.

As we are working with a wide range of unique personalities, I can't guarantee what your child's specific image is going to look like. My goal is to have them feeling relaxed and comfortable. Each student is unique, and we should expect their image to be too. This is not the same experience as the more commercial school photo companies. If you have additional questions about this, don't hesitate to reach out.

My child wears transition lenses. Will this be an issue?

As our photos will be done outside, transition glasses will have some level of tint. Here are some options, starting with ones that will provide the best results.

1. If your child has a secondary pair of glasses without tint, use those for photos.
2. Visit your eyewear specialist and ask if it's possible to pop the lenses out for photos. This gives the look of the frames without the tint or reflection. This is often easy to do, but please consult with your eyewear specialist. *
3. Find a pair of dollar store readers with frames that you like, and remove the lenses. *
4. Keep the glasses in a pocket or other dark space until the last moment.
5. Arrange for photos to be taken inside. Please email selina@ihanaimages.ca

* if the glasses are helping to correct eye placement/direction, this option will not work for you.

Are other glasses okay?

Glasses are best photographed when they are clean and free of smudges. As a full-time glasses wearer myself, I know how quickly they can get mucky. Smudges and debris on the lenses can reflect light, or block the clarity over the subject's eyes. I will have lens cleaning spray and lens cloths on hand for students to use.

If the glasses have a blue light blocker, this can show as purple-blue reflections in the lens. If they have a second pair of glasses without tint, that pair would be the better option for photos. If not, we will tweak angles as needed.

Do you do touch-ups on images?

I will remove small temporary skin blemishes that I feel distract from the image. If I'm unsure if a spot is a bug bite or a permanent mark, I will leave it. Feel free to reach out if I've missed something. Extensive acne touch ups can be added on for an additional fee.
I do not edit flyaway hair, wrinkled clothes, mucus, food on faces, etc as part of standard editing. These can be added on for an additional fee through the image gallery. I do not edit birth marks, freckles, moles, vitiligo, etc on young people.

What if my child is away that day?

If your child is away on photo day, we will cross our fingers that they are well and back to school on retakes day. If they miss that day too, you can arrange a time to come to my studio in downtown Salmon Arm.

Will retakes be available?

If you receive your image gallery and you are truly unhappy with the image, do NOT add the image to your cart or download it! Contact me directly so that we can discuss. Once you have checked out with your image, retakes will incur a new booking fee.

Please note that complimentary retakes are to correct errors on my end. If your child missed their hair appointment, or has a rash from seasonal allergies and you know that you won't be happy with their photo, please have them skip the original photo sitting so I am not duplicating my efforts. Retakes for reasons outside of my control, such as wardrobe, hair cuts, etc will incur a fee.

What happens if photo day is postponed?

If photo day needs to be postponed or cancelled due to force majeure or other unforeseen circumstances, you will receive communication through the school as well as an email from your photographer.

How will my child's images be used?

KCS will have access to the images for school files, yearbooks, slideshows, class projects, website use, etc within their usual school image sharing permissions.

As far as the photographer's use of the images goes, that's up to you! When you complete your order, you'll be prompted to choose the image sharing level that you are comfortable with. This will allow you to provide me with permission to use your child's likeness, or you can opt to have these images kept private. Until I have consent from you, my default is to keep images private.

What happens if I miss the print order deadline or forget to download my images?

Your image downloads are guaranteed to be available for three months. Please download them and back them up to an independent media source. Requests for archive retrieval after three months are not guaranteed and may incur a fee.
Print orders after the group order deadline will be at a higher rate, and will incur a shipping fee.

I still have questions. Who can I talk to?
