Frequently Asked Questions

Where will photos be held?

We will be at a farm in Salmon Arm, in their greenhouse to keep us protected from any potential wet or windy weather. You will need to walk a short distance from your car to the greenhouse.

What age is this for?

This is for pre-K through to grade 12.

Can I drop my kids off?

No. This is not a supervised drop-off event. Please have a responsible adult attend with children.
Teens who are taking care of their own transportation do not need to have an adult come with them, but I do request that they bring a friend.

Why do we need to prepay for photos?

Our rapidly changing digital world has had a huge impact in how I need to run my business. My school photos (even in school) are all now a pre-pay set up. This ensures that I am only doing work for those who are actually interested in having school photos. It also eliminates concerns with screenshots and digital image theft, and outside of school it protects my time against no-shows.

Can we do some group photos too?

Yes! After selecting your individual photo options, you will be able to add on sibling or friend photos. Every student participating in the sibling group photo must also be registered for individual photos.
You can also add on a family photo, with up to 2 adults included.

If you had photos done by me at your school this year, you can skip the individual photos and book in for group photos only.

What is the cost?

Individual Photos:
A multi-pose package with the digital downloads is $68 per student. ($71.40 including GST)

Sibling Photos:
A multi-pose package add on with the digital downloads is $40 per grouping. ($42.00 including GST)
Every student participating in the sibling group photo must also be registered for individual photos.
If you had photos done by me at your school this year, you can skip the individual photos and book in for group photos only.

Family Photo:
A single family photo add on with the digital download is $60. ($63.00 including GST)
Every student participating in the family group photo must also be registered for individual photos.
If you had photos done by me at your school this year, you can skip the individual photos and book in for group photos only.

After the photos are loaded to the gallery, you will be able to purchase additional prints if you like, starting at $14.

How many poses are in the multi-pose package?

The number of images will depend on the child. I aim for 4-5 images, but for some children it may only be 2-3 if they are feeling camera shy.

How long will it take?

School photos are very fast. If your young people are ready to go when they step in front of the camera, you can expect to be in and out in just a few minutes.

What will the images look like?

We will be working with the lovely green and lush space inside of the greenhouse, but the focus will be your young person.

As I am working with a wide range of developmental stages and personalities, I can't guarantee what your child's specific images are going to look like. My goal is to have them feeling relaxed and comfortable.

Images are usually 2/3 or 3/4 of the body, without feet showing. If it is important to you to have feet showing, please let me know prior to starting photos, and please keep in mind that your child's face will consequently be smaller in the image.
If you have additional questions about any of this, don't hesitate to reach out prior to booking.

My child wears transition lenses. Will this be an issue?

As our photos will be done in a bright location, transition glasses will have some level of tint. Here are some options, starting with ones that will provide the best results.

1. If your child has a secondary pair of glasses without tint, use those for photos.
2. Visit your eyewear specialist and ask if it's possible to pop the lenses out for photos. This gives the look of the frames without the tint or reflection. This is often easy to do, but please consult with your eyewear specialist. *
3. Find a pair of dollar store readers with frames that you like, and remove the lenses. *
4. Keep the glasses in a pocket or other dark space until the last moment.

* if the glasses are helping to correct eye placement/direction, this option will not work for you.

Do you do touch-ups on images?

I will remove small temporary skin blemishes that I feel distract from the image. If I'm unsure if a spot is a bug bite or a permanent mark, I will leave it. Feel free to reach out if I've missed something.
I will not be editing frizzy hair, wrinkled clothes, food on faces, etc as part of standard editing. This is considered additional editing, which can be purchased through the gallery after you see the images. I do not remove birth marks, freckles, moles, vitiligo, etc.

What if my child is sick that day?

If they are feeling well enough for photos but can't attend school due to a communicable illness, we still may be able to safely do photos; we will just adjust your timing so there aren't other families around. Please contact me ahead of time to discuss specifics.
If they are feeling unwell and you need to cancel, please see the cancellation terms below.

Can I change my time block?

The time blocks are booked in order to make the best use of my time. If you need to change your time block, please reach out to see if this is an option. If there are no available spaces in other time blocks, this will not be possible.

What if we need to cancel?

Cancellations should be done in writing to selina@ihanaimages.ca

Minimum of 72 hours notice - A $20 administrative fee will be billed per order. (Not per student.) The remaining amount will be refunded.
Within 72 hours of the appointment time - A $20 administrative fee will be billed per order, PLUS 25% of all booking fees.
Within 8 hours of the appointment time - A $20 administrative fee will be billed per order, PLUS 30% of all booking fees.
No-shows will be charged a $20 administrative fee plus 50% of all booked services to cover my time. Don't forget!

Will retakes be available?

With these photos being done outside of school time, and with parents/adults present, there should not be a need for retakes. You will have control over whether or not they wear a hat or straighten their shirt. You will be able to make silly jokes at your child to make them smile. And we'll be able to see (small) previews on the back of my camera to make sure that I didn't catch blinks.
With realistic expectations for quick school photos in mind, if you receive your photo gallery and are truly unhappy with the images, do NOT download them! Contact me directly so that we can discuss. Once you have downloaded your images, refunds will not be considered.

What happens if I book but photo day is cancelled?

If photo day needs to be cancelled due to force majeure or circumstances on my end, all pre-order purchases will be refunded in full.

How will my child's images be used?

That's up to you! When you go through the image download process, you'll be prompted to fill out image use permissions. This will allow you to provide me with permission to use your child's likeness. You can also opt to have these images kept private. Until I have consent from you, my default is to keep images private.

How can I use the photo(s)?

School photos include a personal use license. This means that you can make your own prints through a printer of your choice*, use the photos in family calendars, post them on your social media, email them to family members, etc.

*The photographer has no control over, and is not responsible for, the quality of prints made through outside sources.

Images may not be used commercially or submitted to contests or other organizations. In the case of young people, commercial use for school photos could look like modeling, acting, other other talent portfolios, use by junior sports teams, use as a headshot for a place of employment, use on a social media channel that is designed to earn income, etc.
If you have any questions about usage, please reach out to your photographer.

How can I receive my print order?

If your child attends school in the main core of Salmon Arm, or if you work in the main core of Salmon Arm, I can drop off the print order. I can not make arrangements to meet at certain times at certain locations.

What happens if I miss the print order deadline or forget to download my images?

Your image downloads will be available for three months. Please download them and back them up to an independent media source. Requests for archive retrieval after three months are not guaranteed and may incur a fee.
Print orders after the order deadline may incur additional fees as well as shipping fees. I only ship via traceable and insured services.

I still have questions. Who can I talk to?

Please reach out directly to your photographer, Selina.
