Birthday Morning At The Beach

December 29, 2021

In the midst of a global pandemic, birthdays are still happening and families are finding new ways to celebrate.

These sisters share a birthday week and usually mark the occasion with a large party full of friends, food, laughter, and play. This year, of course, is different.

Our little corner of the world is relatively safe. We are able to do many of our normal activities, but are being asked to keep our social bubbles small, and to maintain physical distancing with those outside of our bubble. This takes a big party off of the list of options.

Many smaller celebrations filled the gap this year; special meals and treats at home, a breakfast picnic, and a quiet beach long before the heat of the day and people arrived. Homemade preserves were enjoyed, seaweed was turned into a bracelet, and the warming waters of Shuswap lake became the perfect place to search for minnows and splash.

Happy birthday, girls! Here's to a year full of new discoveries, special moments with the people who love you, and an appreciation for the wonderful place we call home.

These images were created at Canoe Beach on Shuswap Lake, on the traditional and unceded territory of the Secwépemc people.
